Golf for Beginners: Here's the Basic Equipment You'll Need to Get Started

As a golf beginner, it can be overwhelming to know what equipment you need to get started. There are so many different clubs, balls, gloves and other accessories to choose from that it can be difficult to know where to start. But don't worry, at 2Gringos we'll walk you through everything you need to get started with your golf game.

Clubs
The clubs are the most important tool for a golfer. As a beginner, you don't need a full set of clubs, but it's a good idea to start with some basic clubs to learn the basic techniques of the game. A common set of clubs for beginners includes a driver, a fairway wood, a hybrid, irons (5-9), a pitching wedge and a putter.

If you have never played and are going to play a peg and play course, you will do well on a 5a, 7a, sand wedge and a putter.

Golf balls
Golf balls can vary greatly in price, but as a beginner it is not necessary to buy the most expensive balls on the market. Instead, you can choose a cheaper golf ball until you improve your technique. Some golf clubs also offer used balls for sale, which can be a cheaper option. We sell used balls from out of bounds

Golf bag
A golf bag is used to transport your clubs and other accessories around the golf course. There are many different types of golf bags to choose from, but as a beginner, a standing golf bag may be a good idea. These bags stand up on their own making it easier to pick up and put the clubs back.

Towel
A towel is an important part of your golf equipment because you will need to wipe your clubs and hands during the game. It is also good to have a towel to dry the ball with before hitting it. It is fine to run any small towel in the beginning. If you want to look extra professional, we have a larger selection of towels adapted for golf

Gloves
Golf gloves are important to give you a good grip on the clubs, especially when it's damp or rainy outside. A glove can also help protect your hands from blisters and chafing. However, it is not a must. If you borrow someone's old golf clubs, it can be good as the attachment can be bad on older clubs. See our selection of golf gloves .

Shoes
Golf shoes are designed to give you better grip and stability on the golf course. Many golf shoes also have spikes or patterns on the sole that can help prevent you from slipping on wet grass surfaces. There are many different types of golf shoes to choose from, but as a beginner it's a good idea to choose a pair of comfortable shoes that give you enough support, a pair of normal jumping shoes will do just fine. But if the grass is wet, it's nice to have waterproof golf shoes.

Pegs

Golf clubs make it easier to hit off the tee, so this is almost a must buy, buy a bag of different sizes, to test yourself. See our pegs here

Clothes
There are no specific clothing requirements for golf, but it is important to choose clothing that is comfortable and does not restrict your movement.
